Chamisa - Ericameria nauseosa - Perennial
Rabbitbrush, sometimes called Golden Rabbitbrush or Rubber Rabbitbrush, is a gorgeous late fall beauty. Very drought tolerant, it loves the arid west. Chamisa grows both high and low and pollinators absolutely love it!
Blue-green to white stems and long, grey-green linear leaves are covered in white hairs. The abundant yellow flowers are tightly clustered to give an amazing pop of late fall color. Last year the Chamisa had itself a year - to die for!
After the bloom, the seed heads linger giving beautiful texture to the dry garden. Can grow 1-6'.
You can plant in fall or in late winter or stratify yourself for 30-60 days. Grows easily from seed. Once established it needs very little water. This plant provides nectar to bees, butterflies and other pollinators in the late fall when food is scarce.
You can prune it back to 1' in early spring to help keep it's natural globe shape.
When the Chamisa is glowing in the afternoon sun, you know the fall has arrived.
