Spineless Horsebrush - Tetradymia canescens - Perennial
White stems, silver.grey leaves, orange/yellow disc flowers in clusters. This thing pops in sagebrush country. It grows here in our Piñon/Juniper/Ponderosa land. Very cool subshrub.
Tough, hardy, drought tolerant. It blooms from May to September. It grows to about 2' tall and can sprawl or mound 2-3'. Likes full sun.
It has a deep taproot and can survive wildfire. It will come back form fire like gangbusters. It is multi-branched with a woody or semi-woody stem.
Plant this shrub in fall or early winter in several places. South side of rocky, gravelly slopes, in open areas of mixed, dry forests and sagebrush country.
Stratify in the fridge for 1-2 months if you can't fall plant. With a woody shrub like this, I like to try several planting methods.
