Hungarian Breadseed Poppy - Papaver somniferum - 55-75 days - Annual
Soft pink/purple flowers with lavender marks on the corolla. The centers are white-ish and yellow/green, just gorgeous. Pollinators ADORE poppies of all kinds and this one is no exception.
This is the Opium Poppy, also called Breadseed Poppy, this is the poppy seed found on bagels. It is highly nutritious and is said to aid in longevity.
Growing Opium Poppies in the home garden is legal, just don't make batches of illegal drugs!
Sow in late winter to give the seeds a bit of cold or stratify in the refrigerator for 15-30 days and sow on the surface.
These impossibly delicate, crepe-like flowers can grow 3' tall. The seed heads are a work of art and give thousands of seeds. Allow to reseed and you will always have them.
It's possible there will be color variations.
