Packera neomexicana var. mutabilis

New Mexico Groundsel

Perennial

Basal leaves shoot up copious amounts of small yellow blooms. This plant blooms from spring through summer. You will find this from the foothills to the montane. It grows in sunny openings and coniferous woodlands.

There are many groundsels to admire in the western states and this one is very showy. Grows to 12".

Visited by hummingbirds, butterflies, moths and other beneficial insects. Drought tolerant, likes sandy, rocky soil and sun.

This plant has medicinal uses as well.

Direct seed in fall to early spring for best germination. You can moist stratify in the fridge for 30 days and plant in spring. Sow 1/16" deep.
