The Farisita Pinto Bean
This is another amazing family heirloom story and I am so happy to have enough of this delicious pinto bean to share. It is a small batch and even though the friends that gave me the seeds are encouraging me to 'just eat them', I am going to share them and grow a bigger batch this year.
My friends have told me 'this is the best pinto bean I have ever eaten' and I have shared many meals with them and they are delicious!
I've named it the Farisita Pinto Bean after the unincorporated town in Colorado where they were grown. A man named David Gnaizda grew this wonderful bean by the Huerfano River in Farisita for over 40 years. I'm still hoping to find out who gifted them to him.
He gifted them to my friends in La Veta, Co and they gifted them to me. Oh boy - I love my friends and l love seeds!
Ok - this is a small batch so you will have to do as I did, grow enough to replant and eventually grow enough to cook.
This pinto is perfect in a Three Sisters Garden, it vines about 18". It's not quite a pole bean and not quite a bush bean. I have grown them up the sunflowers but they are perfect to grow with Candy Mountain Sweet Corn because it is a very short corn. Add in either our Mountain Maxima or Northern Bush Pumpkin and you are set!
I am giving 20 seeds per packet. These seeds are precious!
