NEW!! Mountain Fava Bean
NEW FOR 2025!!!
Vicia faba
Fava Beans love the mountains, they can handle cooler temperatures and even light frosts. They cross and this is another Grex, a mixture of Fava's that I have collected over the years. You will see variation in the beans but the vigor of all will be outstanding. Fava's grow quite tall - 3-4' and the pods are enormous.
In the Grex are Fava's from our good friend Jesus Flores, Farmer for the Rio Grande Farm Park in Alamosa, Co, a small batch of Joseph Lofthouse's Fava Grex and a pile of Windsor Fava's that I purchased years ago. Together they rocked and they rolled and they are a rainbow of colors and sizes.
If you've never grown them, jump back, they will burst out of the ground and grow rapidly. They are lush plants with exotic black and white flowers.
Plant them 1-2" deep and space them at least 6" apart. They are legumes of course so they will fix nitrogen and help to build rich soil. They are also called Broad Beans.
