Abronia fragrans - Perennial

Wow - what a flower! The fragrance is incredible and the flowers stunning. I was standing in a field and smelled them before I saw them. The stems are trailing to semierect and grow from 1-3' tall. The flowers cluster is a ball with long white calyx tubes.

They open in late afternoon and close the next morning. I was out there with them at the golden hour and it was fantastic!

They like sandy soils and slightly lower elevations. I found them right around 7,000'.

They are something to see - and smell!

Plant in fall or early winter 1/4" deep.
