NEW FOR 2026!
Gentiana affinis
Rocky Mountain Gentian
I came into acres and acres of this glorious Gentian during the endless summer of 2025. I almost cried - ok - I did cry. It was a mass bloom. This is late summer color to blow your mind. Glowing in the golden hour and accentuating the deep blue skies of Colorado, Gentians are like something out of a sci-fi movie.
When I first saw them, they were open, but they close in the evening or if there is cloud cover.
They grow in dense clusters to 4-20" with lance-shaped leaves growing opposite on the stem.
Plant in fall or moist stratify for 30-60 days. Plant seed on the surface or barely cover as they need light to germinate. Pressing them in is the best plan.
They grow in open meadows - both dry or moist. Germination can take a minute, try several methods and exercise patience.
