Purple Prairie Clover -

Dalea purpurea

Perennial - 8,000'

Easy-to-grow, long-lived perennial legume with a deep taproot. Gorgeous purple color with bright orange anthers makes a beautiful cut flower. Critters like the seeds, so sow 1/16" - 1/8" and press the seed in gently.

Pollinators love this hardy plant and it is a host for many butterflies. It can grow from 1-3' and blooms in June and July.

It grows in coarse, sandy or gravelly soils and can grow from the plains to the mountains. It grows here at 8,000'. It likes sun to partial shade.

This plant is a legume so it fixes nitrogen, helping it's neighbors along the way. It's kind of a super star!
