Mizuna - Brassica rapa

This is one of these foods you plant and once you have it - you always have it. I call this Free Food. It will pop up in the cracks of the driveway. It can grow anywhere in any soil. It is carefree and the flowers are sweetly scented and attract beneficial insects. Mizuna is a mustard from the Brassica family and has a hot bite of pepper. It jazzes up any salad or sandwich. It is not as hot as arugula. It is one of the first greens in spring. It is so early the plants that overwinter are in full bloom by late June. I adore all the stages and the flowers are edible. This is grown as an annual but many of my plants have acted like a perennial. No matter - let it reseed or don't - you will love how easy it is to grow.
