Apache Plume - Fallugia paradoxa - Perennial
Such an interesting plant! This 2-6' tall shrub blooms with fragile, apple-blossom like flowers in spring leaving beautiful pink plumed seed heads in fall. The dark green leaves are silver underneath and can be semi-evergreen in winter.
The plant looks incredible in seed, with the puffy seed heads shining in the sun.
This shrub is thickly branched, making a good habitat for wildlife.
Native to the arid west.
Stratify seed for 30 days. Grows easily from seed and can bloom in it's first year! You can cut back woody stems to the ground to rejuvenate. Drought tolerant - it like sandy soil and can take partial shade. I found it in deep, sandy arroyos. Helps with erosion control too. Reseeds.
Really cool plant....
