NEW FOR 2024!
Trumpet Vine - Campsis radicans - Perennial
This Trumpetvine is the orange variety. It is beloved by hummingbirds and will attract beneficial insects to your garden. This is a vining shrub and when happy and with enough water, can eventually reach 40'! It can be pruned in very late winter to keep it in check. Growth will be less vigorous in higher elevations, and more manageable.
Start seedlings by stratifying the seed for 30-60 days. Grow in pots and set in a permanent place. Be patient, it can take a few years to be established enough to bloom. Plant this where it can climb something, like a fence or a trellis.
It is native to North America and can be too vigorous a grower for some. Not up here though! It send out suckers, needs no fertilizer.
Plant near the surface - barely cover the seed once stratified.
This thing is absolutely gorgeous! Collected in New Mexico.
